The new ED-300XL is a low frequency eddy current instrument for measuring and sorting
ferrous materials for hardness, alloy content, heat treatment and metallurgical structure.
The unit compensates for surface roughness (lift-off), permitting accurate readings
through .010" to .015" coatings of rust, dirt or scale. The ED-300XL's maximum
eddy current penetration is approximately 1/8". Penetration depends upon the type and
hardness of the ferrous material. As the sensing probe, or coil, detects a metallurgical
variation, the instrument's needle (on the front panel) registers accordingly. Three front
panel controls provide adjustment of sensitivity, compensation and balance for unit
calibration.
